Alyn Loyd – Associate Pastor

Serving as associate pastor since 1998. Alyn Loyd, and his wife, Billie, moved from London England to Huntington Beach to serve the Lord at Calvary Chapel Huntington Beach.

Pastor Alyn first put his trust in Jesus back in 1975 after reading a Gospel of John. It was given to him by some genuinely loving believers he “accidentally” encountered at their home fellowship. Sitting on a break, one day at work at the old Sheraton in HB on PCH, he read that gospel and the end of the booklet had a question, asking, “Having read this Gospel of John, is there any reason to not ask Jesus to be your Lord * Savior?” “no”, to that question, and “yes” to Jesus, is what followed. It was there on that job he also met his wife-to-be, Billie.

They wed in 1977, attended Calvary Chapel Bible College in Twin Peaks in 1980, and began a family of three girls in 1981. Pastor Alyn co-led a thriving home fellowship in HB then, as well as the weekly prayer meeting at Calvary Chapel HB, and God confirmed the call to ministry.

The family moved, to north San Diego County in 1984, and plugged into Calvary Chapel Vista. There Alyn eventually served as a Sunday School teacher, usher, board member and later as assistant pastor, while also running a small business.

Once again the family moved in 1997. This time to help with a new church planted in London, England, as well as lay the groundwork for another church plant in Harrogate (in the north of England). While serving in the UK, Alyn providentially met Refuge’s Senior Pastor, Bill Welsh, who was in the UK for just a couple days.

A year later, the family was back to Huntington Beach, and Pastor Alyn became the Associate Pastor of Refuge. It was during the return to the U.S. that Pastor Alyn earned his Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry. Currently, he leads Man2Man (Refuge Men’s Ministry), counsels, serves as the administrator and as Pastor Bill’s right hand man.

Refuge is a Person… the God who reveals Himself as “Father”

He is the father and friend we have all been looking for and He invites us to come to Him through Jesus Christ and to bring all our joys and pains, praises and questions, faith and doubts.

Refuge is People... followers of Jesus Christ are called to be a people of refuge in a dangerous world.

Refuge is a place… any place becomes a refuge if God’s people are found doing God’s buiness there.

Refuge has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into his image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their overemphasis of the doctrinal differeneces that have led to the division of the body of Christ.

OUR PASTORS:

Bill Welsh – Senior Pastor

Alyn Loyd - Associate Pastor

Geoff Wilson – Missions/Highschool Pastor

Chris Olague – Young Adult Pastor

Guillermo DaSilveria – Spanish Ministry Pastor

We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is His “Agape” love, which is greater than any differences we posses and without which we have no right claim ourselves Christians.

We believe worship of God should be Spiritual
We remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

We believe worship of God should be Inspirational.
We give great place to music in our worship.

We believe worship of God should be intelligent.
Our services are designed with great emphasis upon the Word of God that He might
instruct us in how He would be worshipped.

We believe worship of God is frutiful.
We look for his love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been
worshipping Him.

Psalm 13

Have you ever felt as if your prayers were just bouncing off the ceiling?

Read Psalm 13, I’ll wait here till you get back…

Wow, your not alone are you? David didn’t just paint on a happy face and pretend like everything was OK when his life was in turmoil. David was honest about his feelings, yet they did not rule his life, govern his actions or drive him into hopeless depression. Instead they drove him to the throne of God. He didn’t instruct God how to fix the problem, his request was for God to consider his trial, hear his prayer and give him understanding. In the end the thing that changed was David’s perspective, from earthly to heavenly. David states, in spite of the way I feel and what I’m going through, “I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.”

Can I see in my own life, that when I have trusted God through trials, He has dealt bountifully with me? Do I understand looking back that He is working his eternal purpose in my life? Will I trust that He has my best interest at heart? Can I say, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and external weight of glory,” (2 Cor. 16-17)
